Griffin Preserve Committee Minutes 5/25/06
Griffin Family Nature Preserve
Meeting Minutes for May 25, 2006
Present at the Meeting:
Bob Griffin, Joe Wiehe, Jim Owens, Pat Casey
Topics Discussed:
·       Reviewed meeting minutes from April 27, 2006.
·       James Owens’ Eagle project (Hiking trails).
o       James Owens completed trail map. Again helpful at meeting and soon to be posted on signboard and Evendale website.
o       Boy Scouts will install trail marker signs when completed.
o       Trail is complete.  Needs some more seeding.
·       Maintenance will put in top soil and seed where stumps were removed.
·       Funds are approved for gravel for both Gorman and Griffin trails.  Maintenance will repave all gravel trails in the Griffin Preserve.
·       Drainage ditches and pipes were completed by maintenance around the creek crossover.  These will minimize the amount of mud deposit on the trail from heavy rains.
·       Maintenance has large rocks to place around the dam overflow pipe discharge area to reduce further erosion.  Waiting for the soil conditions to dry before attempting to put the rock down.
·       Griffin Nature preserve committee will see if volunteers can be obtained to coordinate with Gorman Farm to transplant wildflowers from Trosser property to Griffin Nature Preserve.  The idea is to move the flowers to the area south of the parking lot where trees lining the Dold property will provide sufficient shade for the flowers.
·       There was discussion to plant flowers on the north border of the wildflower meadow.  It was suggested that the trees be flowering trees to go along with the wildflowers.  The committee agreed to take this into consideration as a future project.
·       The committee will accept large donated stones to be used as a step on the north side of the bridge over the pond inlet.
·       Committee encourages the Boy Scouts to help trim back the foliage along the trails through the brush.
Action Items:
·       Service department to repave gravel trails with target date by end of June.
·       Service department to add stone to the drainage ditch along the path up to the pond.
·       Service department to put top soil and seed in holes from trunk removal.
·       James Owens toinstall signs and finish seeding the new trail.
·       Pat Casey to contact Sandra Murphy at Gorman farm to coordinate the Trosser flower transplanting.
